This post was inspired by a little ta do I was involved in, over at James's Nourishing Obscurity- one of my favourite all time blogs.
James wrote a very informative post about the American stats regarding Latino rates of , depression, unemployment & suicide, as well as their higher rate of births, as opposed to their American counterparts, essentially.
I found the not-so-veiled racist comments that followed his thought-provoking post a typical example of why this world is in such a sorry state of racial hatred and fear. They only proved my point that some people truly do need to be put to sleep.
Having lived in a multicultural society for many years, and being nicknamed United Nations Uber for reasons I won't get into, I have had the life-enriching experience of befriending peoples from a diverse gaggle of nations.
I would have it no other way.
I am so fed up with the ignorant notion held by too many that visual minorities are the undeserving benefactors of 'goodies' such as the opportunity for an education or job quotas on the basis that they first, curtail their propagation thus remaining a minority and second, they be forever grateful that they are being given anything at all- given their ' non white' status.
The other side of this oxidized coin....
Who wants to be reluctantly hired for a job/given a decent education/treated like a human being for no other reason than their ethnicity dictates that a quota or law must appear to be met? Then they are resented for 'cheating a white out of a position' or demanding something that they are not really entitled to. Given this prevalent attitude, it's not even likely they're going to meet with fairness and tolerance; be treated with equal respect and appreciation . They are simply a legally required statistic to make 'us' the majority feel we have done something Herculean to tip the balance of inequity. Begrudgingly, at that.
Why the Hell, do we have these legal quotas forced upon us, anyway?
Could it be because people, like the ones I had my say with, do not freely give, accept and respect ALL peoples of ALL races?
Do these closeted members of the KKK not even 'get it' that forced quotas are a true indication that the jobs and scholarships, as an example, are NOT being meted out fairly, with a disregard of colour, creed or race, by our benevolent 'white society'?
The OBVIOUS fact that our society needs to legislate an UNequal 'opportunity' to as few as possible shows the REAL lack of equality for all! And even then, it's considered too much to give by too large a majority....with the proverbial 'strings attached'.
KEEP YOUR NUMBERS DOWN!
How far have we come since Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1862?
Don't kid yourself, a mere baby step! One need only look to Malcolm X's/Martin Luther King's assassinations or the disgrace that was Apartheid 100 years later.
It's these attitudes that make me want to live in a cave, with my books and films, and not talk to anyone.
I believe in the culling of people like this from MY society.
Some days they make me ashamed to be white!
This is why if I had my finger on the big nuke button- I would push it.
Twice.
A case in point by a far better writer than me, The Poet, Shazza.

Ooh, you are well again and back to form.
Yes, yes and yes.
But not just race and colour but religion as well.
We are al members and equal member of the same race----the human race.
We shouldnt be talking about being tolerant or accepting of people, we should just realise that they are our brothers and sisters---
Ok, there are a few in the world that I dont want in my family--we will just cull them
Clyde- Exactly. Even preaching they are 'tolerant' shows they think they are bestowing something on someone.
It's amazing how some obviously racist people don't even recognize their own racism.
You are right, we are all brothers and sisters in this world. My ONLY problem is- I want to be an only child. :0
Uber
You are an only child---there is only one Uber---a child of the Universe
Clyde- YOU are my lucky charm- don't disappear again. :)
YOU are right it IS my universe isn't it? But who the f-- are all these people lulling about?
Great post - I'll wait and make reference to it a bit later in the week.
Hmmm.... over here, the quota is for the majority race (Malays are 70% of the population - they get special schooling, plus scholarships to study in UK, plus a lower passing mark for exams and university entrance)... so in this case, not sure about the reason for the handicap unless it's because they're genetically inferior...? ;-)
Semaj- :)
Eve- We would not need preferential treatement if everyone was treated as equals and given opportunities based on pure merit.
WOW! I am completely in love with this post. As soon as I finished it, first thing that came to my mind was "Take THAT in your pipe and smoke it!"
It was so awesomely to the point, no bullshit, just "here it is, bitch" and nothing more.
It's Uber being Uber and I love it.
Deb- I actually wrote that out of character. I try to keep to comedy here and keep my political self off.but let's just say I was 'inspired'. Ty for such an awesome comment.
Oh...I love this side of you. You bring up the very things that makes people uncomfortable. I like that. They are uncomfortable because they don't want to think. They want to think the world is a nice Sunday bar-b-q with neighbors in the back yard.
Many went forward bravely to be heard saying I am a human...just like you and the color of my skin or the god I pray to or the fact that I am a woman or gay...doesn't make me less.
I am for civil rights...for all people. I am careful and have much thought in something when I do say anything on these serious issues. Choose carfuly your words. How many times have television and radio celebs...said things that were just wrong! Just to be funny and witty. They are that step backward.
Civil right activust Bayard Rustin who organized the 1963 civil rights march in Washinton DC gave much and worked too hard too to move the world forward...to have us let our guard down and fall back to the begining of the fight. So we must take big steps forward and sometimes a steps back...but we must take a step. We must not ever stop and we must not ever forget the road taken...even when we can look at another and only see their soul.
I better get off this soap box...You my dear ubermouth...ROCK!
This is a fabulous post...I love it and I love this side of you. You make me so damn proud to know you.
I stand and I applaud you. I'd kiss you but you might think I was getting all lezzy on you...it was my hand on your ass that gave you that impression huh? hehehe.
Soup...and a blind date with DiCaprio, You got it, chica.
Cioa babes.
Gosh Uber, it seems I started a forest fire over at James and never went back to check.
I'm sorry you took my comment in a way that it was not meant. It was a bit facetious I suppose.
But these are the facts in the States. There are all kinds of university scholarships that are available only to Hispanics as well as AfroAmericans, for example. Plus affermative action jobwise. But not for Asian Americans it seems, for they are no longer considered an ethnic minority.
Yes I live in Canada, a multicultural country and I am the least racist person you would ever meet and have good friends of many ethnicities and religions. In fact I cringe when I travel abroad and realize that other places are not like Vancouver where we are very accepting of everyone.
Of course you have lived in Canada and you know I'm sure that First Nations people also get preferential treatment, for example in the Faculties of Education and Law. The reason is of course that they wish to encourage First Nations teachers and lawyers. All First Nations students also get free university education. Plus there is affermative job action for them too.
I won't comment on whether I think affermative action is a good thing or not but I believe that the ideal would be that we all should have equal opportunity for education and professions with no consideration of race or gender.
We would not need preferential treatement if everyone was treated as equals and given opportunities based on pure merit.
I just noticed this in the comment above. I see we agree after all.
i am speechless...(which is hard to do) but i think you said it all and wrapped it in a nice red bow!
Spiky-Thank you for such a well thought out comment. I love the way you support people and was so touched you went and left a comment for my friend Diamond. :)
It's nice to see such support in the blog swamp , even when one says things that make people feel uncomfortable. Please read my response to JMB. :)
JMB- THank you for taking the time to respond. That meant a lot to me, actually.I am sorry for my over zealousness in relation to your comment. I guess because you ARE my compatriot and Canada is such a remarkable country because of our peaceable and 'love everyone' ways, your comment struck a chord.
I think we have a better understanding now. :)
I was so incensed, that I stepped out of character to write a political piece, which I normally leave to the more talented.
Racism is an issue that is near and dear to my heart. I am not Canadian but have lived there for many decades, and it is the thing I am most proud of Canada( except for how we treat our native peoples- which is a disgrace- but we have far less crimes against our peoples than most countries).
Over here for past decade, I was weepy when I learned Canada turned the States down when they expected 'us' to be their ally in their axis of evil ( Iraq).
Is there a better country in this world than Canada? I think not!
I brag about P.E.T to people here, and was upset when he died. He, for me, was Canada.
Fuddle duddle- you make me homesick!
Daisy- Maybe I shall make Ian Dale's Top Political Blogs book hahahahaha.
People see my blog as rants, but this is actually the only true one I have ever done- and as myself. I stole the keyboard from Uber.
Good post Uber.
However no way am I ashamed to be white becuase of someone elses opinions , particularly I am not adopting a sort of shared 'guilt' becuase I share their pigmentation.I am utimatley responsible for the way I act and think.
I also think that the western societies are fairer than most and as Nations we give ourselves little credit for what we get right.
Beast- I see your point. I feel guilty around ppl of colour and also want to apologise to them for the atrocities they still face at the cruel hands of my 'white brothers'. That, in itself, would seem racist though.
baby...thank you for yourt kind words.
I stopped by to se if youhad pushed the button...whew, I'm still here. hehehe.
I also stopped by to see how you were feeling...are you doing okay sweets? I hope you are. xxxx
Glad your feeling better and back to your ubermouthiness. You tell em, sis!
Ah Uber It is my hope that nobody has the option to push the button, but sadly as things are headed I agree with you - we are no farther than we were when humanity first began this journey. I agree with beast - our individual actions dictate who we are. I loved your passion in this post and am glad your feeling better.
Lincoln killed half the population of the United States just so he could get reelected. Then someone shot him while he was watching some porn to celebrate. Then they hung a bunch of people they thought were part of the plan to shoot him without really knowing if they were the right people. Then Johnson created affirmative action and escalated the fighting in Vietnam in the hopes of using it to get reelected like Lincoln had done. Then people threatened to shoot him, so he didn't run again after all. Then Nixon actually put affirmative action into practice. Then he had to resign over his perjury relating to Watergate. And now we all have to fill out government forms every time we turn around, marking little boxes that categorize us as "European-American" or "African-American" or "Native-American". This is all very annoying for those of us that are a combination of many things because there is no little box that says "All of the Above".
The anti-Nazis became the new Nazis long ago. Now we're all just trying to survive in this hyphenated yet still just as hateful world. What sort of hyphenated bullshit labels do they make you use in the UK? Are you "Scottish-European" or "Irish-German-Saxon" or "African-Italian"? Who came up with this crap anyway and why has no one shot them yet? All these hyphens make me tired.
And now I'm off to visit Spikey Zora Jones and her hot photo.
Spiky- Not yet, but my thumb is hovering and the minute I run out of cigarettes EVERYONE PAYS THE PRICE.
Catherine- Thank you. Whilst we are all responsible for our own actiosn, we need to consider the justified resentment built up by others actions. I never wnat to be mistaken for one of them, but what can one do- wear a slogan on a shirt?
Pru- Oh I will be doing a lot of telling. :)
Steve- See what I mean about white guys? :) WE all need to be colour blind and unblinkered when it comes to people who have too much authority.TY for your well thought out comment.
quietly pushes a pack of reds in ubers direction hoping to bring back my hand intact...
Daisy- But a pack of red what??? I do like red licorice. :)
reds is a nickname for marlboro cigarettes...they are in the red package...we just ask for reds here...sorry
btw i like red licorice too but can do without it longer than marlboros
Daisy- You Yanks have shit cigarettes. I'm sorry but it's true. Now L&B is a proper smoke.
I mentioned to Rod I LOVE black licorice- and he bought me about 5 lbs of it- now I HATE black licorice.
